Why we love working with Lions Clubs (and why Dunsborough’s Easter Fair has a special place in our hearts)

At PDC Health Hub, we’re all about bringing healthcare into the heart of the community, and making it accessible for everyone. Our ongoing collaboration with local Lions Clubs really embodies this.

This weekend, we’re packing our gear (and our sunscreen) for the Dunsborough Lions Easter Fair, and to be honest, we’re feeling a little nostalgic. This event holds a special place in our hearts - it was here that we screened more people than we’ve ever screened at a single event. That day set the bar. Will we beat it this year? We’re not sure. But that’s not really the point.

What matters most is the connection - the real conversations, the on-the-spot support, and the chance to reach people who might otherwise fly under the radar.

Why these events matter

Our work with Lions Clubs allows us to reach people where they are - at the markets, the fairgrounds, after doing their grocery run and in the heart of their local communities. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to:

• Screen HUNDREDS of people to determine their risk of type 2 diabetes. These quick assessments can be life-changing, giving people the tools to take charge of their health early on.
• Pick up undiagnosed diabetes cases. It’s not uncommon for someone to stop by for a chat and walk away with the instruction to follow up with their GP. That moment of awareness can be the first step to better health.
• Have open, supportive conversations. Often, the most important thing we do is listen. People living with diabetes carry a lot - physically, emotionally, and socially. Just being able to speak to someone who understands can make all the difference. On-the-spot advice from a Credentialled Diabetes Educator is also a huge bonus!

Community is where it all begins

These events are more than just outreach - they're reminders of why we do what we do. Whether we’re chatting to a local who’s just been diagnosed, helping someone understand their risk, or catching up with familiar faces from past events, it’s about human connection.

We’re so grateful to the Lions Clubs who welcome us time and again. Their tireless community spirit perfectly complements our mission to make diabetes care more accessible, inclusive, and compassionate.
